When managing inventory, it’s often important to ensure dedicated stock is set aside for Wholesale Orders. In ShipHero, there are several ways to achieve this depending on the level of separation your team needs.
1. Reserve Inventory
The Reserve Inventory feature within ShipHero on a product page lets you reduce the quantity that’s published to your sales channels, if inventory sync is turned on. By reserving units, you guarantee they won’t be sold online and can instead be applied to wholesale orders.
- Best for: Short-term needs, flash sales, or small wholesale commitments.
- Limitation: Reserved stock isn’t physically separated; it’s simply withheld from sales channel availability.
2. Place Wholesale Orders in Advance
Another way to secure stock is to enter wholesale orders directly into ShipHero.
- Once the order is created, the items become Allocated, meaning they’re immediately deducted from Available inventory.
- This ensures that even if D2C orders keep coming in, wholesale allocations are protected.
- Best for: Confirmed wholesale POs where quantities and SKUs are already known.
3. Configure a Virtual Warehouse
For complete separation, we can configure a virtual warehouse specifically for wholesale.
- Inventory is “bifurcated” between D2C and Wholesale locations.
- Units assigned to the wholesale warehouse are invisible to retail channels.
- Best for: Ongoing wholesale programs with recurring or high-volume needs, where long-term inventory segregation is necessary.
- Limitation: Stock isn't as fluid and requires manual moves of inventory warehouse to warehouse to queue it up to sell in the other channel.
