Manifest supports four shipping types depending on your order requirements. Most D2C orders ship via Manifest's parcel carrier accounts, but B2B, FBA Prep, and large retail vendor orders may require one of the other options. Understanding which shipping type applies to your order determines how you configure it in ShipHero.
Manifest Small Parcel (most common)
Orders import to ShipHero and Manifest generates a label through its carrier accounts based on your configured shipping method. The carrier and service are selected either via rate shop or a specific carrier and service mapping. This is the default for most D2C orders. For configuration details see How to Set Up and Configure Shipping Methods.
Manifest Freight (FedEx Freight)
Manifest can book freight on your behalf for large B2B and FBA Prep orders through its FedEx carrier partnership. Benefits include reduced admin effort, typically same-day pickup, and FedEx tracking. To use this option contact Manifest's account managers to set up the required trigger on your orders.
To configure for an individual order in ShipHero, set the carrier to Generic and the method to Generic Label — this prevents Manifest from generating a parcel label and signals that freight booking is required. See How to Edit the Shipping Method on an Order.
Third-Party Small Parcel (Prepaid Labels)
Used when a retail vendor, distributor, or marketplace such as Amazon requires shipping under their own prepaid small parcel labels. These labels are typically generated through your vendor portal such as Amazon Seller Central. To configure: set the carrier to Generic and the method to Generic Label in ShipHero, then upload the prepaid label as an attachment to the order. See How to Add Attachments to an Order for upload instructions.
Note: if producing the prepaid label requires weights and dimensions from Manifest, your Vendor Compliance SOP must explicitly state this requirement. Upon successful pick, pack, and processing Manifest will send you the weights and dimensions and await your confirmation that labels have been uploaded to the order before shipping.
Third-Party Freight (Prepaid BOL)
Used when a retail vendor, distributor, or marketplace requires shipping under prepaid freight, typically facilitated through your vendor portal or a third-party freight forwarder. To configure: set the carrier to Generic and the method to Generic Label in ShipHero, upload the BOL as an attachment to the order, and schedule an outbound pickup appointment through OpenDock. The OpenDock appointment must include your brand name, the order number as it appears in ShipHero, and an attached copy of the BOL. Appointments missing this information may result in Manifest being unable to identify the outbound shipment and the pickup being turned away.
Note: if producing the prepaid BOL requires weights and dimensions from Manifest, your Vendor Compliance SOP must explicitly state this requirement. Upon successful processing Manifest will send you the weights and dimensions and await your confirmation that labels are attached before the scheduled pickup.
